Quarantine Entertainment – April 6

Are in need of social distancing activity?

I have found ways to keep my mind busy through gardening. Personally, I think gardening is the best because it gets you breathing fresh air and doing something constructive. To my fellow students- Once you finish reading this post… Put your phone down and go outside!

I have always had a love for flowers and decided I would grow some from seed. Below are my steps and pictures throughout different phases of the growing process.

For a video guide- I have provided one I found particularly clarifying. Click Here.

Step 1: Buy seeds of you choice. I chose Zinnias in a variety of colors.

Step: 2: Gather old egg cartons prefereably paper ones so you can easily transplant them into you outdoor garden bed… I chose to start my seeds early this year so I have solid growth a few weeks faster than I would had I waited to start my seeds outdoors. You are going to want to add soil to each egg slot and then add your seeds. With a vert light layer of soil, cover your seeds. Gently give the seeds a misting of water to not disturb your newly placed seeds. Put in the sunshine and wait 3-10 days.

Step 3: Prepare your outdoor garden beds or greenhouse. You are going to need to move your flowers once they outgrow your egg carton in about a month. This month of indoor growing will give you time to prepare your outdoor garden beds. In my case, I will be moving them to a green house. You are going to want to clear weeds and rocks from the soil to allow your soon to be transplants space for their roots to grow in the soil.

Step 4: Wait and let the seeds do their thing.

I will be updating this post in a couple months when my Zinnias make more progress.
